Skype for Business Video Transcript:
I’m going to show you how to change your presence status on Microsoft’s Skype for Business.
First off what exactly is Presence? Presence is the ability to detect another user’s availability. Using Skype for Business, users can display their presence status—for example, Available, Away, Do Not Disturb, or Offline—to let others know their availability. Skype for Business presence information is presented throughout the Office 365 suite.
You can find your presence status under your name when you are looking at your Skype for Business contact list.
You can change your status by clicking on the arrow next to your current status and choosing from one of four main options:
- Available (Green) – this means you are available to receive all calls and instant messages
- Busy (Red) – which means you are not available, but can still receive all calls and IMs
- Do Not Disturb (Red with a dash) – meaning you are not available and cannot receive calls or IMs
- You can receive IM’s from people who you initiate contact with first however
- And Away (Yellow) – which means you are not at your desk right now
And you can choose either “off work” or “be right back”
Those are the four main presences statuses, but you can also choose to:
- Appear Away – which makes it look like you are not at your desk, but you can keep working
- Or Appear Offline – which makes it look as though you are not logged in
There are a few ways that your presence status changes:
First, you can change your presence manually at any time by clicking on the arrow next to your current status.
Second, because your Skype for Business and Outlook accounts are connected, your presence status will change automatically to Busy when there is a meeting set in your calendar.
Lastly, presence is changed automatically by Skype for Business.
To revert from the status you set and have Skype for Business automatically update your status, click the status menu and then click Reset Status.
