As part of a recent Lync 2013 deployment, I ran into some issues successfully integrating the Office Web App server. Using Lync 2013 clients, we were seeing connectivity related issues when sharing PowerPoint presentations.
I’d gone through the instructions provided by Microsoft (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeonlineserver/deploy-office-online-server?redirectedfrom=MSDN and https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/office/lync-server-2013/lync-server-2013-configuring-lync-server-2013-to-work-with-office-web-apps-server?redirectedfrom=MSDN) and successfully retrieved the appropriate XML information from the discovery URL, but Lync wouldn’t work.
The Microsoft Office Web Apps log was littered with Event IDs 1009 and 2009, which were also indicating communication issues:
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it xx.xx.xx.xx:80
Eventually, I discovered that Office Web Apps on Server 2012 requires .NET Framework 3.5, which can be installed from the Server 2012 installation media in .sourcessxs (using the alternate source path). Once that was installed (complete with a reboot), presentation sharing in Lync worked like a charm.
